Eco-SchoolsEco-Schools: Environmental education for the whole school.
The Eco-Schools Programme is nternationally recognised and is administered in South Africa by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). It is designed to encourage action for a healthy environment, allowing learners of all ages to become actively involved in the management of their own school environment by working together on themed projects. The programme upholds a set of international standards for the environmental management of schools, laid down by the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). A prestigious International Green Flag is awarded after five years to those schools that demonstrate a deep and ongoing commitment to whole-school participation in environmental learning and environmental management. The aim of this programme is to raise awareness about environmental issues and give everyone in the school community a chance to be involved in managing their environment responsibly, making a small but positive difference to the health of our planet. For further information, please contact the National Eco-Schools Team, Bridget Ringdahl, Anisa Khan or Thobile Nzimande at WESSA on tel (033) 330 3931 ext 111/ 145 or email ecoschools@wessa.co.za
